Torus Expands Outright Sale Offer with Latest Scheme

26 October 2022

Celebrating further expansion of its housing offer into Cheshire East, leading growth and transformation group, Torus, were joined by Homes England to mark the start of works on site at The Old School House – Torus' first ever site in Macclesfield.

Building on its reputation as a trusted developer, The Old School House will see Torus grow its outright sale offer and invest over £3.7 million into the development of 27 luxury apartments in the former Kings School building.

Torus Developments and contractor, PLB, will completely transform the 19th century building and sensitively convert it into modern apartments that will secure the future of the imposing schoolhouse, which overlooks Victoria Park. Vacant since 2020, the Kings School building has been a local landmark for over a century and Torus’ plans will see it regenerated to meet local need for high-quality housing.

The focal point of the Kings Park scheme, which is being developed by Barratt David Wilson, The Old School House is the fourth historic building Torus has remodelled to create a highly sought-after, unique development. It follows the successful transformations of the former Ogden’s Tobacco Factory in Everton, the former Fire and Police Station in Allerton, Liverpool, and the original Newton Community Hospital building in Newton-le-Willows.

Kings Park is a true partnership development, with the site originally purchased by Homes England to allow the school to relocate. Following its sale to Barratt David Wilson, the housebuilder subsequently selected Torus to take care of the most important asset onsite given the Group’s success with previous historic buildings. Barratt David Wilson are also developing a further 54 new houses for Torus as part of the wider development.

Discussing the start on site, Director of Developments & Sales at Torus Developments, Steve Alcock, said:

“As a Group, we’re excited to be taking a lead on the regeneration of this iconic local landmark, securing the future of this historic building through conversion into stunning, modern apartments filled with all the features an old building offers. As a developer, we are quickly becoming known for complex refurbishment projects and I know the redevelopment of the Kings School building will once again see it become a thriving community focal point.”

“We’re thrilled to be working with PLB to create a new future for this building, as Torus understands the power of housing-led regeneration. I’m looking forward to seeing the scheme progress and know that The Old School House will become a great home to future residents and, once again, a building the community will be proud of.”
