Torus Mobilises Largest St Helens Site, Building 168 New Homes in Sutton

26 February 2024

As a Group, Torus has been investing in building new homes in St Helens for over 5 years and now the team is celebrating starting on site on its latest – and largest – St Helens scheme to date; Lancots Lane.

Seeing 168 new homes built – 96 for Shared Ownership and 72 for Affordable Rent – Lancots Lane will bring a mix of 2-, 3- and 4-bedroom homes and bungalows to Sutton and continue Torus' investment in building new, energy efficient, affordable homes in the area.

Expanding its ever-growing investment in St Helens, Lancots Lane represents a further £28 million injection into the areas affordable housing portfolio and Torus’ ongoing commitment to regenerate and transform brownfield land that currently doesn’t contribute to the local community or economy.

Discussing the scheme, Senior Development Manager at Torus Developments, Colin Lafferty, said:

“St Helens is an incredibly important area of focus for Torus and one we are wholeheartedly committed to investing in. Lancots Lane is the first of a number of largescale schemes we will be mobilising in St Helens and to be in a position to bring forward 168 new homes is something we’re really proud of.

“Lancots Lane also marks the beginning of a new partnership with Holmpatrick Developments and Stanley Land and Homes. It’s fantastic to be working with even more providers and expanding not only our housing portfolio but the diversity of organisations we are collaborating with. I am looking forward to seeing both bring their unique skills and expertise to the project and know that Lancots Lane, and the homes we build there, will be all the better for it.”

Kate Collins, Senior Manager – Provider Manager, from Homes England, continued:

“As the Government’s housing and regeneration agency, increasing the supply of quality affordable homes remains one of our key objectives and we are committed to supporting ambitious housebuilders of all sizes to build those homes and communities. As a Homes England Strategic Partner, Torus has committed to delivering new affordable homes via the Affordable Homes Programme 2021-26. It is fantastic to see works underway at Lancots Lane, which will provide much needed, good quality, affordable new homes that the people of St Helens can be proud of.”

Adrian Dale, Operations Director at Holmpatrick Developments, continued:

“Through partnering with Stanley Land and Homes on this scheme we're delighted to be delivering this for Torus who has shown great faith in us to do so. With the site being previously owned by our parent company, it means so much to the group to help provide much needed homes in the heartland of our community and operating region.”

Neil Hughes, Director at Stanley, also commented:

“We are very pleased to be delivering this scheme to our partner, Torus. At Stanley we believe affordable housing should enjoy the highest standards of urban design and quality. The construction of 168 new homes will drive a complete transformation of the area and prove to be an exemplary demonstration of brownfield regeneration through highly collaborative partnership working between Torus, the LPA and Stanley. We have exciting plans for the continuing regeneration of Sutton and look forward to delivering these soon.”
